About the Artist

Contemporary Abstract Artist

I took my first art lesson at the age of nine and was hooked. My mother was an artist and all-around creative person, as was my father. I grew up in a tumultuous family, but found I was able to escape into drawing, coloring, and painting with my watercolors. As soon as I was able to support myself, I began art lessons once more. After my children were born, I finished my Bachelor’s Degree in the arts and began painting seriously, showing my work, and affiliating with art galleries.

In 1998, I began teaching collage, basic acrylic painting, and basic composition with the organization Women in the Visual Arts, as well as the prestigious Cornell Museum of Art School in Delray Beach, Florida. Several years later, I began to travel extensively throughout the US and abroad teaching painting workshops.

Ten years ago, I retired from South Florida to Charlotte. I have been fortunate to continue painting and selling through the galleries that currently represent my work. My artwork is in collections all over the world and can also been seen at O'BRIEN  ART GALLERY in Greensboro, NC, ART SOURCE FINE ART in Raleigh, NC, and ONESSIMO FINE ART in Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens, FL. , as well as on each of the six floors of the AC Marriott Hotel located in Raleigh, NC, and in the penthouse at AC Marriott Hotel in Charlotte, NC

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Although over the years, I have worked in many different media, today I choose to work mainly in a non-objective style, utilizing water-based, mixed media, sometimes in conjunction with collage.  The creative process can begin with an idea, a word, a feeling for certain colors or textures… simply a need to create.  The use of imaginative textures and veils of color, mark making, scratching, either slightly hidden or boldly displayed, lend a powerful sense of mystery and invite the viewer in.  If my artwork evokes an emotion, a memory or a desire to look deeper and become involved, then I feel I have succeeded. My work is inspired by the Abstract Expressionists of the 50s, and 60s.
